Question 1. Why are delayed food sensitivities so important?
Answer: Delayed food sensitivities are now being associated with chronic diseases such as Irritable bowel (IBS), Crohn's, Migraines, Asthma, Colitis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Click on the following links to view a complete list of Symptoms and Diseases. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 2. What is the difference between immediate food allergies and delayed food sensitivities?
Answer: Immediate allergic reactions (IgE, or Histamine) occur within a few moments to up to two hours after contact or ingestion, so it is easy to identify a correlation. Whereas delayed sensitivities usually happen within 2 to 72 hours after eating; sometimes even longer. This is why it is difficult to logically connect the symptoms with foods just eaten.
The reason for this is proteins take up to 3 to 4 days to enzymatically digest, so the foods you eat today are added to the foods you've eaten over the last three days, which makes identification very difficult. There is a very high correlation between delayed food sensitivity and the amount and frequency of the food consumed. Check out our Symptoms checklist to see if any of the listed symptoms match your personal symptoms or diagnosed disease. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 3. Why do some people have delayed food sensitivities and other do not?
Answer: The answer is just like anything that has to do with the body; everyone is completely different. What foods affect one person may have no effect on another, and may also include hereditary & environmental predispositions. We also know that repetitive consumption of the same foods over an extended period of time, may eventually trigger an immune response, where the immune system is so hyper-sensitive it begins to classify these favorite foods as foreign substances and begins to attack the very foods that should be supplying essential nutrients with anti-bodies to form immune complex clusters, which causes chronic disease. The Sage G-Test accurately identifies which foods are causing an immune response, and the Sage Program is designed to eliminate those foods for 6-weeks while the immune system calms down, and then challenge those same foods in a regimented process to see if they are still causing a chronic reaction. Question 4. Why would my doctor say I do not have food allergies?
Answer: Most allergists and general practitioners are taught that there is no allergic response other than IgE. If tests for IgE are negative you may be told you have non-allergic, allergic reactions. This is obviously an oxymoron. What the doctor means is you appear to have allergic symptoms, but your skin or RAST tests are negative. Most food reactions do not involve IgE, but instead are an IgG reaction. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 5. So why are IgE type reactions the only reaction accepted in traditional medicine?
Answer: Allergists and physicians are only trained in the diagnosis of IgE mediated reactions, measured by skin testing or RAST testing. New research has shown that there are 3 other pathways for immune hyper-sensitization. Most delayed food sensitivities involve these 3 other IgG pathways, and are not IgE or histamine reactions. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 6. How does The Sage G-Test differ from RAST test or skin testing?
Answer: RAST and skin testing methods only measure IgE mediated reactions, which are almost exclusively caused by histamine or anaphylactic triggers like: hayfever, pollen, dust, shellfish, bee stings, or poison ivy & poison oak. The Sage G-Test only tests for food triggers (132) that your own blood has shown a positive reaction for an allergic response. By identifying the exact foods, and providing the custom diet and continuing care program, the Sage G-Test is the most accurate and affordable option for treating your chronic condition. Question 7. Why is The Sage G-Test better than other allergy Tests?
Answer: Over 30 years of hands-on practical experience has shown the key to delayed food sensitivity in chronic medical problems is usually an IgG reaction. Most researchers agree that food allergies are the key to chronic inflammation in diseases like Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Sage Medical Laboratory has developed the Sage G-Test to accurately identify which foods related to your diet are causing your reactions. Sage goes the extra step to provide each patient with a host of resources to insure a successful treatment program, like: Accurate Test Results, 4-Day Rotation Diet, MySageChef Consultation, a Diet Diary, and a continuing care program for staying healthy for the rest of your life. Question 8. How exactly does The Sage G-Test work?
Answer: Our testing methodology uses an IgG ELISA platform. It is run using serum that identifies IgG reactions. The Sage G-Test utilizes an indirect method of measuring mediator releases and the effects of other pathogenic mechanisms of allergic and delayed hypersensitivity. In addition, Sage runs each patient test in duplicate, with controls to insure the highest degree of accuracy. This is a unique process, and only Sage Medical Laboratory goes to this extreme level of professionalism and accuracy. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 9. How do you I know that I am allergic to foods or have food sensitivities?
Answer: If you have any symptoms or diseases listed in the section on chronic conditions then you quite possibly do have a chronic disease, which is almost always caused by an allergic response to certain foods. The more symptoms you identify with, the stronger the possibility you probably have delayed food sensitivities. The Sage G-Test will be able to specifically identify those foods causing your chronic symptoms and disease. Everybody's chemistry is unique. The same foods that may cause migraines in one person, could cause IBS in another, and no yet symptoms in someone else. This is why testing for food sensitivities is so important if you are suffering from a chronic disease. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 10. If your test says "I'm sensitive" to certain foods, how do I know what I can eat?
Answer: The Sage G-Test provides you with a personalized Elimination Rotation Diet Program that excludes all the foods that tested positive for an allergic reaction. In addition, a "foods to Avoid" wallet card is provided, along with Meal Planning & Food Substitution Tips during any consultation with MySageChef our in-house Executive Chef. Question 12. How do I get my blood drawn?
Answer: We will provide you with a draw specimen kit so that your doctor or laboratory can draw the required amount for The Sage G-Test. Remember, all blood has to be shipped to our Lab within 24 hours after being drawn, and you should fast after midnight before your blood draw. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 13. Do I have to fast or do anything special before I have my blood drawn?
Answer: You need to fast after midnight in order to do our test. You cannot take steroids or antihistamines for three days prior to your blood draw. (If you are taking daily steroids, consult with your health care professional before stopping them.) Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 14. Do you test the whole blood or serum?
Answer: We test using only the blood serum derived from spinning the blood in a centrifuge and separating it before application to the antigen panels. Testing serum verses whole blood gives us the advantage in maintaining the specimen for a longer period of time, and gives more accurate results. This also eliminates the need for testing to blood type, which includes plasma & proteins found in whole blood. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 15. Do you have a license to do your test? Who inspects your laboratory?
Answer: We are licensed by CLIA, the regulatory department of the federal government. The State of Florida also inspects our Lab every two years. We are also in compliance with all STARK and HIPPA regulations. We have consistently passed every inspection, and exceed all regulatory requirements.

Question 16. Is your test covered by insurance?
Answer: After you've paid for the test, a "Paid-in-Full Statement" and "Insurance Claim Checklist" is provided to each patient for re-imbursement from your Insurance provider. Although most Insurance providers do cover the test, you will be responsible for negotiating re-imbursement from your provider, depending on your Insurance coverage plan and deductibles. Question 17. What Does Sage Test For?
Answer: The Sage G-Test tests for a total of 92 of the most common foods, dyes, and additives in the typical American diet. A list of all these items can be found in the Sage G-Test section of the site. It is Sage's policy to never overstate its antigen count by adding derivatives of primary foods to the total count to make it seem like we test for more foods. (I.E.: Milk - cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, etc..., or: Grapes: raisins, wines, etc...) There's no point in playing games with your health, so if milk is one of your primary reactive foods, then it means to stay away from all forms of milk & dairy. The same goes for every food tested, but you'll get a lot of help from MySage Chef in finding alternative foods, and excellent recipes as you begin the Sage program. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 18. How long does it take to get results back?
Answer: Typically, test results are returned to your doctor's office within 7 to 10 days after your blood has been sent to our lab. Please call your medical provider to schedule an office visit to review your Sage G-Test results. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
Question 19. Will I lose weight when I stop eating foods I am sensitive too?
Answer: As an added benefit to feeling better and getting healthier, when the reactive foods are eliminated, most people find they are able to meet their weight goals whether they needed to lose or gain weight. This is because your body is now correctly metabolizing a new diet which is exactly suited for your genetic background. Back to Questions - at Top ↑
